Kids 3: Ladies First \[The Cottage Meetings for Kids material is organized by stories and activities individual families can participate in all month long, \] followed by an Activity Day Outline designed for a co-op style setting where multiple families can share what they’ve learned and enjoy a fun day of activities, stories and games highlighting the monthly theme. This Month’s Theme: Ladies First The purpose of this presentation is to help children realize the powerful influence of women in their home and family, the community, and the nation and teach the importance of having respect. Learning materials for Ladies First: ❑ Read-Aloud Book of the Month: Patriots In Petticoats by Patricia Edwards Clyne (we much prefer this author and version to the newer version) ❑ Sybil’s Night Ride by Karen B. Winnick* ❑ Founding Mothers: Remembering the Ladies by Cokie Roberts Note: This book is a well done overview of the women of the revolutionary war at an appropriate grade level, but does include a couple of slightly negative comments about individual founding fathers and the way women were treated during this time. ❑ Anna Strong: A Spy During the American Revolution by Sarah Glenn Marsh ❑ A Little Maid of Provincetown by Alice Turner Curtis (and the rest of the series) ❑ Knights in Training: Ten Principles for Raising Honorable, Courageous, and Compassionate Boys by Heather Haupt ❑ The Princess and the Three Knights by Karen Kingsbury ❑ Alex and Tony Learn to be Gentlemen by Antonee Boykin ❑ Heroes and Heroines of the American Revolution (Dover History Coloring Book) By Peter F. Copeland ❑ Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink ❑ Young Patriots: Inspiring Stories of the American Revolution by Marcella Fisher Anderson Other Suggested Books: Moms for America ✯ Cottage Kids 1
