Demonstrate the power of families by using an object lesson. Ask a child to break one toothpick and then give them a large handful and ask them to try to break the bundle of toothpicks (give them enough so they won’t break). Let them know that individuals are stronger in families and that our families are an important source of hope.* Host a movie night to watch Monumental: In Search of America’s National Treasure. To find where this movie is available, search at https://www.imdb.com/title/ tt1706687/ Before the movie begins, let your guests know that at the end you would like everyone to share their takeaways. With your kids, listen to the song When You Believe from the Prince of Egypt soundtrack. https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=GYgNFxH4taM Ask the children, what is a miracle? What miracles have happened to you? How would you feel if you were with Moses when he parted the Red Sea? Do you think you would be scared? Excited? Have kids reenact their favorite scripture stories of miracles and hope; use costumes if desired. Find and watch the video “What is a Leader” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtnZYe8fYN4 on YouTube, created by the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Examples would be: serve a family member, read a favorite scripture, read writings of the founding fathers, talk to someone you trust, listen to spiritual or patriotic music, outline ways you can make a difference in your community or become more educated in correct government principles, make a list of good men/women in your life and write at least one of them a note of appreciation. _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ Read the following article: Kids 1: Anchored in Hope Ideas to Incorporate: During the month or on Activity Day based on age and interest 4 Cottage Kids ✯ Moms for America
