Kids 1: Activity Day Outline Activity: Pin the Anchor on the Boat Game Put the boat picture from the Activity Day Resource pdf on the wall and give each child a small anchor cutout with tape on the back, cover their eyes with a bandana or another way, spin them (optional) and then ask them to try their best to place the anchor on the star that you have drawn. The person who put the anchor closest to the star wins! Activity and Discussion: Look to Family, Toothpick/Pencil Demonstration Remind the kids that one of the important ways to find hope is to look to family. Tell them this activity is going to be an example of the importance of family in our lives. Ask for a volunteer to help you. Give them one toothpick or pencil and ask them if they think it will be easy or hard to break it. Then ask them to try and break it. Then give them many more toothpicks/pencils and ask them again if they think they can break them. Let’s see! Ask them to try and break the bundle of toothpicks/pencils (give them enough that they won’t be able to break them). Ask the kids what lessons they think we can learn from this activity. Explain that when we are on our own and alone (like a single toothpick or pencil) it’s easy to sometimes feel sad, broken, and like everything is too hard. But we are so blessed that God has provided us with families! When we stick together with people that care about us, and support each other on hard days, we can find joy together and be strong together, so that the yucky things in the world won’t seem so bad and get us down so often.
