Moms for America® Statement on Supreme Court Ruling in Carson v. Makin
Branson, MO – Today, Moms for America® leadership released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling in Carson v. Makin which allows public funds to be used for schools that teach religious instruction.
“We applaud the Supreme Court for their ruling upholding the true meaning of the First Amendment, which guarantees the free exercise of religion,” said Tamra Farah, Senior Director of Moms for America.
“The Maine tuition assistance program provides parents with the right to their choice of a private school for their child to attend if accepted, and for their tax dollars otherwise slated to pay for public school to cover the cost.
Chief Justice Roberts’ opinion rightly holds that if the program excludes religious private schools from a parent’s choice, that the parent’s free exercise of religion is effectively penalized.
Now more than ever, many schools have become hyper-politicized and driven by radical belief systems that support unscientific gender identities and sexualized materials that offend the religious and civil liberties of many families.
Education dollars should follow children so that parents can play an active role in shaping the morals and beliefs of their sons and daughters.”
