Guardians of Women’s Health? The Ugly Truth About Planned Parenthood
Names aren’t always what they seem.
Take “The Inflation Reduction Act” 1 – not so much.
How about the “Coexist” stickers, wildly popular a few years back? (You may remember one on the bumper of your neighbor’s Prius.) Varied religions have coexisted in America for centuries. Contrary to the word’s true definition, that sticker meant that you mustn’t hold that your religion is true; instead, your faith must bob along in a sea of relativity where all “truths” are equal.
Then there’s “choice.” It’s a term that’s supposed to mean that there are, well, choices. You could keep your baby or place your child with an adoptive family. You could abort. But in America, if you are pro- “choice,” that means simply that you are pro-abortion.
Finally – the well-known name of “Planned Parenthood.”
Where’s the part of that organization where planning for parenthood actually happens? Is there any planning involved? Planned Parenthood is sort of the Inflation Reduction Act of organizations – its reality is precisely the opposite of what the name promises.
And don’t get us started about the word “parenthood.” That organization seems more about not becoming a parent. They thrive when women choose to discard their babies. Plain and simple.
America’s Abortion Giant
Though it’s hard to pin down the actual figures for abortions in America – it’s likely conservative that it’s been somewhere between 7 and 800,000 annually.2 It may even be as high as 900k. It’s hard to tell because several states – including California don’t report. The number will necessarily change with the overturning of Roe v. Wade – but will also be affected by the dramatic uptick of mail-order abortion pills.
According to their annual report, America’s abortion giant, Planned Parenthood’s terminations are up – with 383,4603 little ones whose lives were ended in 2022. That represents roughly 40-50% of abortions performed in the US.
Contrast that with the minuscule number of women referred by Planned Parenthood to have their babies adopted by one of the thousands of waiting families. It’s just under 2,000 and represents a tiny .5% compared to the children aborted. For the poorly named organization, clearly, abortion is their bread and butter.
We recommend a name change. Maybe something like “Abortions-R-Us.”
Planned Parenthood = Women’s Healthcare?
They tout themselves as champions of women’s healthcare – but check the numbers.
A stretch at best, they claim that they are a go-to for breast and annual exams, sexually transmitted infections, general healthcare, and birth control. They offer those services, but not as many as you might expect from a behemoth organization with more than 600 clinics from sea to shining sea, employing nearly 6,000 with annual revenue of $1.7 billion.4
According to their annual report, Planned Parenthood boasts 2.13 million patients in 2022.5
However, it seems like there’s a bit of a numbers game here.
The Centers for Disease Control reported that roughly 63 million pap tests and mammograms were ordered in 2022 by doctors in the US.6 Of that number, Planned Parenthood only provided 470,419 (a combination of either paps or breast exams). That means their mighty efforts offering these represent .74 of the US total for those two tests– while their abortion rates hover roughly around 45%.
Funny Math
Planned Parenthood also reports that they offered 9 million services last year. When you consider that abortion is only 470K of those services, it appears to be only a tiny percentage of their efforts. According to Lila Rose, President of Live Action, they use special techniques to get to that number. In a video for Prager U, she explained the numbers game that makes Planned Parenthood seem more legit. “They count every discreet clinical interaction as its own ‘service,'” she said.
Rose explained that nearly every contact with a girl at the clinic is its own service. When a girl passes through the doors of her local clinic – the pregnancy test, the abortion, the prescription handed to her at the end each could be counted as a separate service – and there may be more.7 It’s sort of funny math that turns less than 500K in abortions into millions of these “services,” propping up the illusion that Planned Parenthood is more focused on women’s health than their abortion cash cow.
There’s much more behind the scenes of that organization that has been dripping out during the last few years. Unplanned, a 2019 movie, told the story of Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director who left, her views radically changed, going from abortion activist to pro-life champion. She’s featured on our latest podcast, so be sure to tune in to hear more of her story – and what she’s up to now.
Racist Roots of Planned Parenthood
Activists and leftist supporters of the abortion megacorp like to ignore the racist roots of Planned Parenthood bequeathed by their founder, Margaret Sanger. She left writings and news accounts of her alleged desire to live out her eugenic worldview. She spoke publicly at a Ku Klux Klan meeting in 1926 about the “Negro Project at Planned Parenthood.” She suggested that forced sterilization should focus on “morons, mental defectives, epileptics.” 8
Some allege that she strategized to diminish the African American population in our nation. Her admirers deny that – even in the face of some of her disturbing writings. After decades of hero-worship of Sanger by her abortion-minded admirers, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, Alexis McGill Johnson, finally threw in the towel, deciding the time to distance the organization from Sanger’s checkered history. She wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times, “We must fully take responsibility for the harm Sanger caused to generations of people with disabilities and Black, Latino, Asian American, and Indigenous people.” 9
With or without their endorsement of Sanger’s troubling ideology – 64 million souls have been lost to abortion in the US since 1973. Planned Parenthood bears the indelible mark of guilt for their enormous share of the bloodshed.
An Even Darker Side – Fetal Tissue Harvesting?
You may remember some shocking videos a few years back where hidden cameras captured Planned Parenthood employees discussing the pricing of fetal body parts and things like removing these tissues and organs while keeping them intact for sale, presumably to Biolabs for experimentation.10 The world let out a collective gasp as an even darker side, fetal tissue harvesting, seemed to unfold before our eyes. It even prompted many who typically wouldn’t fall into the pro-life camp to admit that it was troubling.
Noting that even Hillary Clinton, firmly pro-abortion, called the videos “disturbing,” Ben Shapiro of Daily Wire, in his video “The Truth About Planned Parenthood,” stated, “People who claim they are disturbed by the sale of baby organs but are totally fine with the crushing of their (babies) heads are moral idiots. It’s like saying you’re disturbed by the whipping of American slaves but not by anyone holding them as slaves in the first place. Here’s the truth. Abortion ends a human life. The science is settled.” 10
David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt captured the footage that went viral online and in the news. Rather than celebrating their investigation, the two and the rest of their team must pay a settlement to Planned Parenthood of $2.4 million. The verdict stemmed from charges like breach of contracts, fraud, trespassing, wiretapping, and more. Just last fall, a California appeals court upheld the ruling, throwing out only one of the charges: wiretapping.
A statement given by their organization, The Center for Medical Progress, read in part, “A Ninth Circuit panel decided with this ruling today that protecting Planned Parenthood’s barbaric practices of partial-birth abortion and trafficking of aborted fetuses for government-sponsored experiments is more important than protecting the First Amendment right of journalists and of the public.” 11
Meanwhile, the media rallied in unison to tout the verdict as thoroughly clearing the name of Planned Parenthood. The videos are still there, and more allegations of barbarism have surfaced 12 – though the media isn’t showing much interest. We can imagine that the verdict against Daleiden and Merritt has chilled those who might follow their example.
While Planned Parenthood and its acolytes (the media) claim that none of it was true, it’s hard to unsee what we’ve seen.
Upping Their Gender Game
When they claim they’re not just about abortion – we concur there is another priority at Planned Parenthood: gender. They are actively upping their gender game with gender-affirming care through hormonal treatments and puberty blockers to “help” transgender individuals and those who are “gender fluid.”
They also offer parental advice about how to help your kids with gender and sexual development. In their video for parents to use in speaking to their preschoolers – they encourage you to teach your child that some women have a penis, while some men have a vulva.13 Another video invites you to talk to your preschooler about their “identity.” Seriously?
Hold your kids close, mamas. We must protect and educate our kids to understand physical, spiritual, and common-sense truths as they grow. When they are old enough, teach them about the scourge of abortion and the truth about Planned Parenthood, so they’ll know to steer clear.
Finally, together, we can pray for moms who find themselves in unplanned pregnancies and their babies, that they’ll find their way to a pro-life pregnancy center where they can truly learn about their options, possibly see their developing little one on an ultrasound – and discover that life is the very best choice.
