The Latest from MAHA: The Plan to Make America Healthy Again
“A healthy person has a thousand dreams; a sick person only has one.”
– Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., HHS Secretary
The scientific method.
It seems to have been all but forgotten in this political climate. The first step in scientific inquiry is to pose a question.
And yet, in doing so, the Make America Healthy Again movement raised the ire of media, politicians, and commentators far and wide. Sacred cows are tipping, and Overton windows are shattering, as our Health and Human Services secretary, RFK Jr., asks some pretty important questions. These are invariably followed by ridicule and fake outrage from those who have long chastened us to “follow the science.”
The questions are important ones. Here are a few:
Why has the rate of autism risen from 1 in 150 children in 2000 to 1 in 31 by 2024?
What has caused pediatric chronic disease to rise by 30% in the last 20 years?
America spends twice as much per capita on healthcare for its citizens compared to other wealthy nations, so why do our citizens face a lower life expectancy?
What is the truth about vaccine injuries from the COVID-19 jab?
Those questions don’t sound crazy to me. What strikes me is that previous administrations didn’t deem them important enough to ask.
Now, RFK, Jr. is simply asking us to follow the science, considering practical and necessary changes to help Americans thrive once again.
Different Priorities
If we step back in time – say a year – we’d find that the priorities for our HHS department were dramatically different.
The previous administration prioritized compelling millions to take the COVID vaccine and its myriad subsequent boosters. It waged a war against “misinformation,” which amounted to smothering any speech offering non-approved questions or thoughts about vaccines, treatments, and forced, isolating shutdowns. They also tout their addition of 14 million to Obamacare roles, “tackling climate change as a public health issue,” and, of course, a robust push for “equity.”
Thankfully, it is a new day in America – and Kennedy has embraced the practical, and desperately needed mandate to Make America Healthy Again. He and his team hit the ground running, and change is happening nearly every day – innovations intended to help people, young and old, achieve a greater level of health, strength, and vitality.
I’ll admit that I haven’t stayed as current on all that’s been happening with RFK Jr.’s team, other than the Pete and Bobby Challenge. Still, progress is indeed being made, and it is happening quickly, despite leftist outrage.
Distractions and Detractors
Riddle me this: why would anyone be against making America healthy?
One reason we may have missed some of the meaningful change is the cacophony of media personalities who have continued their barrage of accusations and ridicule of RFK, Jr. It comes across as the lashing anger of a rejected lover – perhaps because he crossed over to serve a Republican president. Who knows?
Objection to any and everything from the Trump team is like a religion for the TDS-addicted media and politicians who find themselves against seeking reasons for the dramatic spike in autism and the declining health of children and adults in America. Their focus: calling RFK, Jr. crazy with nothing to back it up except their own virulent dislike of him and President Trump.
Their favorite accusation is that Kennedy is an anti-vaxxer, only… he’s not. They don’t like the theories about causes potentially linked to autism, like Tylenol use in pregnant women. Some even disagree with his concerns about ultra-processed food. Scientifically speaking, the jury is still out on some of these issues; however, the research and discussion surrounding them are vital. God bless him for bringing them forward!
Making America Healthy
Wherever you fall on the spectrum, from admiration to skepticism of the HHS secretary’s theories, one thing is sure: his priorities.
In an interview before the election, Kennedy shared that for years he had prayed each day that God would provide an opportunity to make a difference for Americans to improve their health, nutrition, and lifestyle. A lifelong Democrat, he defied many, including family members, to cross the aisle, fulfilling his dream, but as part of a Republican administration.
Partnering with Dr. Marty Makary, the FDA Commissioner, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Director of the National Institute of Health, the team has begun to take action on many fronts.
Cutting through the noise of the critics, here are some accomplishments in the MAHA movement in the first 10 months of President Trump’s administration:
- Prioritizing Prevention – The Trump team is looking to help Americans who suffer from chronic diseases at a higher rate than ever before. Roughly 60% of our citizens suffer from one or more chronic conditions like heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, or cancer.
- Make America Healthy Again Commission – This commission was established to address the root causes of our nation’s health challenges, with a primary focus on diseases affecting children.
- Synthetic Food Dyes – Many of these are already banned in other countries and are now being phased out of the American food supply, with 35% of producers committing to eliminating artificial dyes. This includes 90% of the ice cream companies. Petroleum-based dyes will be stripped from our food supply by late 2026.
- SNAP Restrictions – Data reveal that between 10% and 17% of SNAP funds are routinely spent on sugary drinks, candy, and nutritionally bereft foods. State by state, restrictions are taking effect, allowing SNAP funds to be spent on better options. RFK recently explained his view that people should be allowed to purchase sugary drinks and junk food if they’d like; however, the American taxpayer shouldn’t have to pay for it. The change has been officially adopted by several states, including Nebraska, Florida, Colorado, Iowa, West Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, and Indiana, among others.
- The Safer Childhood Vaccines Task Force – This has been reinstated to examine the risks and benefits of the current recommended vaccine schedule.
- Utilizing AI to Unlock Cures for Pediatric Cancer – The Trump administration is leveraging innovation and the burgeoning technology available through AI to accelerate the fight to save children.
- Presidential Fitness Test Reinstated – You may not have loved it as a kid (just me?), but it’s back to challenge our kids to take their fitness to the next level – for a healthier future.
- COVID-19 Vaccines – The controversial vaccine, which hit the market in 2020, has finally been removed from the schedule of vaccinations recommended for pregnant women and healthy children. Its status on that schedule would cause families to be pressured by some schools to submit to the jab.
- End Gain-of-Function Research – With his Presidential action, Trump signed an executive order, “Improving the Safety and Security of Biological Research,” which put in place several measures, including the end of manipulating and enhancing dangerous pathogens.
- Most Favored Nation Policy – President Trump announced that pharmaceutical companies must offer the US the same lower drug prices as those offered to other countries.
- Right to Try – This was signed into law by President Trump during his first term and provides individuals with life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to try experimental treatments before the lengthy FDA approval process is completed.
- Removal of “black box warning” on Hormone Replacement Therapies (HRT) – The original fears surrounding the use of hormone therapies in menopausal and post-menopausal women are now understood to be largely unfounded. Flaws revealed in some of the key studies that spurred those dire warnings kept women from the significant health benefits of physician-directed HRT. According to FDA.gov, “Randomized studies show that women who initiate HRT within 10 years of the onset of menopause (generally before age 60) have a reduction in all-cause mortality and fractures. Women may also reduce their risk of cardiovascular diseases by as much as 50%, Alzheimer’s disease by 35%, and bone fractures by 50 to 60%.”
Less than a year into the second Trump administration, we are encouraged. Although the battle is on, they aren’t backing down from key issues across the board, from healthcare to defense, education, commerce, affordability, and the numerous quality of life issues Americans face. Plans are being formulated, while others are already underway to “Make America Healthy Again,” and much remains to be done to improve our nation’s food supply, as well as our medical and pharmaceutical industries. Our hats are off to the entire Trump team, as we finally have a government courageous enough to ask the right questions and enact meaningful plans to help improve the health and future of our great nation.
