Why Hispanic American Voters Should Focus on Freedom – and the Issues
Yosely knows communism.
Growing up under the iron fist of Fidel Castro, he was taught to pray in school to the dictator as if he were a god. As a boy, he saw family members beaten by the police and later spent time in a Cuban labor camp as a young man. He struggled to find enough food to keep his wife and children from starving.
His is a harrowing story of survival – and Yosely Pereira’s escape to America through stormy and shark-infested waters seems more like a movie screenplay than real life. The pages of his book, A Sea Between Us,1 illustrate the vivid, true story of one immigrant – and the reasons so many long to enter the US.
People from all over the world have sought refuge, freedom, and hope in the US, including those of Hispanic descent, who make up 19% of the population. Families from Central and South America, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba have come through legal immigration channels for many decades. They attained citizenship, enhancing our way of life with their rich Hispanic heritage and culture. These contributions and a deep love of family, faith, and freedom have been part of our nation from its beginning. Whether a US citizen for many generations or having attained citizenship more recently, Hispanic voters are an essential American voting bloc and instrumental in guiding her forward.
When Vanessa Faura’s parents emigrated from Peru, she was only nine. At 18, she gained citizenship and the right to vote. Before she registered, she asked her dad which political party was best. He explained that since they were Hispanic, they were Democrats. However, when Vanessa read the party platforms side-by-side, she realized that, based on her family’s values, they should all be Republicans. She shared a bit of her story onstage at this year’s Republican Convention in Milwaukee, championing her values before the GOP family. This week’s podcast will give you a deeper look into this remarkable woman and her story. In addition to her many accomplishments, she serves as Executive Director for Moms for America Action. You won’t want to miss her insights into this fall’s election.
Focus on Freedom
Too often, people assume that the Hispanic vote belongs exclusively to the Democrats. But why?
And the data supports that, as this community historically leans left. Again, we ask – WHY?
The origin stories of many Hispanic Americans, their parents, or grandparents, are rooted in countries that withered under socialist policies – or a communist boot, so one would expect that American freedom would draw each immigrant toward the party that would be least likely to plunge our nation into the sludge of these failed and oppressive policies.
Since Democrats like to glamorize socialist policies and ideals as a future remedy to present problems, they would be a no-go for all who understand totalitarian rule.
It’s worth noting that when it comes right down to it, polls reveal that the top concerns this election season are shared across racial and ethnic lines – Hispanic, African American, Asian Americans, and Irish Americans – are uniformly concerned about the economy, the border, their freedoms, their children, their healthcare, and their security. Despite the desperate attempt to divide us along racial lines – as Americans, we are almost wholly united across the board on these priorities.
So, back to the Republican party. Before going further, we’ve got to address the “elephant” in the room. It would be wrong to paint Republicans as pure in their pursuit of small government and maximized freedom. We’ve got, shall we say, a mixed bag when it comes to these aspirations versus actual accomplishment. Think elephants – with a smattering of “RINOs.”
Still, for now, the Republican Party (warts and all) is the best game in town.
Republicans still support your rights as parents – as Dems suggest schools should have control over your kids and what they learn.
Republicans uphold the First Amendment – as Democratic politicians have proven a desire to censor unwanted speech, including that of political opponents… and you!
Republicans stand for the Second Amendment – as Harris openly shares her desire to confiscate your guns via a “buy back” program.
Focus on the Issues
Recent polling identifies the following as crucial issues for all voters; Hispanic and, really, for all of the electorate, regardless of ethnicity.2 If we all focus on the issues that affect us and our children, our voting decisions become much easier.
Inflation & Making Ends Meet
Across the board, this is the top issue in every demographic.
The facts are easy to see because we’ve all been living it in real-time.
Harris/Bidenomics has put the squeeze on the American family. Rent and mortgage rates have skyrocketed. Grocery prices, insurance, gasoline, utilities – the cost of living, have caused pain from coast to coast. This can be entirely laid at the feet of Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and Democratic economic policies.
As money has been wasted, like with failed “green” initiatives (7.5 billion tax dollars budgeted for charging stations with only 8 produced), sending billions overseas, and other billions in military equipment abandoned in Afghanistan, there’s been no good excuse offered. Because there is no good excuse.
Harris’s copycatting of what she hears from President Trump – like not taxing tips- belies the truth of her boast about casting the deciding vote to provide 80 billion for an army of IRS agents.3 Soon after, the IRS rolled out a plan to crack down on workers who they believed underreported or hid their tip income.4
With a clear-eyed look at the economy during Trump’s years in office ($1.87 gas, anyone?) compared to present economic pain, the choice for everyone should be clear. A vote for Harris and any Democrat down the ballot is a vote against your own financial future.
That makes the score:
Republicans – 1
Democrats – 0
Crime & Immigration Concerns
Make no mistake. The lines are clear on this one.
It is Democratic policies carried out in localities by District Attorneys who refused to jail criminals that have left Americans fearful of an underreported crime wave that has spread across our great land – especially in our larger cities. A steady stream of news stories over the last four years tells of robberies, violent crimes, and perpetrators back on the street in a matter of hours. The no-cash bail policies of the left have made our streets less safe and criminals free to offend again and again.
Hispanic families, like all Americans, favor the rule of law and desire safe communities and their hometown or city to be free of violence and danger. Their policies would suggest that the Democratic party opposes this family value.
Then, there’s immigration. Some might assume that those of similar ethnicities will stick together to promote an open-border policy and favor amnesty for illegal aliens. Remember, though, so many in this community worked hard and waited for years to enter America legally. To see others disregard the laws and safety of our nation is not something Hispanic Americans generally favor. In fact, a recent CBS poll 5 revealed that a majority of Hispanic Americans favor the mass deportation of illegal immigrants.
Everyone on both sides of the aisle supports legal immigration. It is the foundation of our populace. People from all over the world have made the United States what she is today. Together, we are a land of immigrants who built her cities, fought her wars, and made her the most unique nation on earth.
However, an open border, with 15 million or more unvetted strangers made up of a few friends, more foes, gang members, and who knows who else – is not the same thing.
Only one party is right on the issues of crime and illegal immigration:
Republicans – 2
Democrats – 0
Educating Our Kids
The march toward homeschooling has been noteworthy and understandable.
As schools lean into indoctrinating kids in gender ideology and racism, parents seek how to protect their children from the wild-eyed leftist drawing Venn diagrams on a whiteboard.
Undercover journalists recorded teachers and administrators, even from red states, describing their strategies for blatantly lying about what is taught in their classrooms and how they can keep a child’s gender transition secret from parents. These have been scandalous revelations – largely dismissed by mainstream media but well documented.
Regardless of race or ethnicity – most moms, including Hispanic moms, favor parental rights. We love our kids and want to protect them. Education is yet another issue that hits moms across the board.
Democrats are documented supporters of Critical Race Theory and gender studies for the young, and against school choice.
President Trump promised to reintroduce patriotic education into America’s schools and ban mask or vaccine mandates for students. He also rejected the idea of biological boys being allowed to infiltrate girls’ sports and spaces. The Republicans also favor universal school choice. You can hear more about this in our recent conversation with President Trump.
Let’s check that score again.

US Security & Threats of War
The Harris/Biden record on foreign policy is abysmal.
We can’t unsee what we’ve witnessed during the last four years.
The biggest abomination was the ill-advised, foolish, and devastating retreat from Afghanistan. Leaders of both parties were strategizing the end to that war; however, Harris/Biden staged a chaotic, violent, and uncontrolled evacuation that caused the loss of 13 young American soldiers killed by a suicide bomber and left thousands of our friends behind, violating promises made. Now, new reports have surfaced revealing that there were at least two opportunities to intervene before the suicide bombing at Abbey Gate, which were either missed or ignored.
Since then, Russia invaded Ukraine, some suggest that Putin was emboldened by the perception of American weakness so vivid in Afghanistan. It has cost hundreds of thousands of lives, possibly as many as a million – and America has poured more than $55 billion into that still-raging war.
Meanwhile, China began to increase its threat to invade the island nation of Taiwan. That potential has been heating up for the last couple of years. One must ask if these totalitarian regimes feel the time is right since America is not what she once was on the world stage.
Israel was attacked on October 7th, with the brutal killings of more than 1200 citizens – including the elderly, babies, and youth, by Hamas terrorists. There were 250 hostages taken that day, including several Americans. Harris/Biden has failed to take decisive action or exert pressure to get our hostages released, and one of our citizens was among the six captives murdered last week.
During his tenure in the White House, President Trump negotiated with strength and certainty – and America was safer. He promises to help Russia and Ukraine reach an agreement to end their bloody conflict and to broker peace in other parts of the world. Can the former President do it? His track record from when he was in office provides hope that he may indeed be able to lower the temperature of geopolitical tension.
We won’t be able to touch on every issue affecting the election; however, we’ll call this the final score for our purposes:
Republicans – 4
Democrats – 0
The differences between the parties right now are profound. Encourage your family members and friends to take a long, hard look at the issues themselves and consider what then-candidate Ronald Reagan asked in 1980, “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”
As American moms, we are of every color, creed, economic level, and background. We are lawyers, housewives, accountants, artists, teachers, writers – and chefs. We share our love for this country and for our children and families. That’s why we lock arms together as Moms for America to stand, fight, and pray for the freedom and future of our blessed nation.
