7 Ways to Restore Patriotism in America

It’s a mama bear movement they may not see coming.

Amazingly, some seemed blindsided by last year’s gubernatorial election in Virginia, where moms came out in force. History was made when they flooded the polls, saying “no more!” to the government’s overreach in schools.1

Even as parental power rises, polls reflect a decline in those who identify as proud Americans.2

But, because of you, mama, a patriotic generation is on the horizon.

Restoring American patriotism begins at home, and you lead the way! With your influence, your kids and grandkids will inherit a proud legacy where the red, white, and blue is celebrated by future generations, and God is honored.

That’s why Moms for America’s newest campaign – Restoring Patriotism offers the resources and strategies to help you take back America with your children.

This movement will take hold, mamas, when we lock arms, look forward, and put these 7 ways to restore patriotism in America into practice!

1. Boost Your Mom-Knowledge

To begin, make sure you know your stuff.

There are many ways to boost your mom-knowledge of America, the Constitution, and current affairs.

Our Restoring Patriotism campaign provides a number of great (and fun!) options for an easy on-ramp to upping your game, including:

Let’s do this together! Knowledge is power, and you can influence the resurgence of American pride. By getting involved with like-minded moms, you’ll be ready to draw a line in the sand between the truth about our heritage and lies spun by culture and media designed to turn our kids away from love of country.

2. Encourage Your Kiddos’ Patriotism

We aren’t born with patriotism!

Just like faith, patriotism has to be cultivated and consistently fed.

You can encourage your kiddos’ patriotism by making patriotic acts, words, and prayers part of everyday life.  Here are a few ideas to help:

*Gear Up and Get Involved:

Our newest edition to our lineup is Cottage Meetings for Kids! A fun an interactive way for kids to build their love of country and knowledge about our Constitution. And be sure to check out our Patriot Pack for Kids, which includes everything the kids in your life need to become a patriot!

*Tell Stories:

Our founders’ exploits, faith, and vision can be shared around the dinner table, at bedtime – or wherever you have the appropriate moment. Your kids will look forward to these times when America’s rich stories comes alive for them.

*Say the Pledge:

Making the Pledge of Allegiance part of your everyday life will drive home the truth of the words and the gravity of the sentiment over time. A flag in the front yard, living room, or kitchen gives you all you need to teach your kids the importance of this practice. It’s one of the best and easiest ways to restore patriotism in America.

*Celebrate Patriotic Holidays Together:

Don’t let our nation’s special days pass by as simply long weekends. A celebratory occasion like the 4th of July is the perfect time to host parties, with decorations, sparklers, and fun activities. If the day needs a more serious approach, like Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day, create a more subdued celebration using tips like the ones you can find HERE.

Getting them involved and engaged will help your children develop the heart of a patriot.

Plan a Patriotic Trip

Nothing can drive home the heart of patriotism like a family vacation. There are so many amazing places to visit that are not only educational, but fun, too!

In fact, we’ve done the leg work for you. You can find over 1,000 patriotic sites to visit on our NEW Liberty Trips Map!

And be sure to check out 5 Patriotic Sites to Visit this Summer, too.

In the meantime, there are dozens and dozens of patriotic experiences in Washington, DC, and the surrounding area. So many of them, like the Smithsonian Museums and monuments, have free admission.3 While the trip itself may cost a pretty penny, it’s nice to know there are plenty of budget-friendly options. Here are a few of the freebies your family can experience without breaking the bank:

  • National Museum of American History
  • National Air and Space Museum
  • Ford Theatre
  • US Holocaust Memorial Museum
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
  • Lincoln Memorial
  • Jefferson Memorial
  • Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial
  • World War II Memorial
  • Korean War Memorial
  • Frederick Douglass National Historic Site
  • Arlington Cemetery
  • Washington National Cathedral

Remember, there are historical sites in every state in the union, so start packing!

4. Wear and Share Your Patriotism in Public

Sporting a patriotic tee may not seem like an impactful way to restore patriotism, but it really is!

Every time people see an individual (and many individuals!) willing to wear and share their patriotism in public, it reminds them that the heart of America still beats strong, regardless of the narrative.

The same is true of flying a flag at your house and periodically posting your love for America on social media. A meme with a quote from a founding father or thanks to a soldier in your life on Armed Forces Day will identify you as a proud American to your online community!

5. Vote in Every Election

“Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It’s the only thing.”4

This important truth from Albert Schweitzer is an example of how we can restore patriotism in America.

Mamas, it speaks volumes when your children see you vote in every election. Teach them why voting is necessary and explain your views of the issues and candidates on the ballot.

And don’t underestimate the influence it will have on friends and family too!

If voting has seemed daunting in the past – never fear, MomVote is here!

We’ve taken the time consuming, sometimes confusing process and made it EASY to vote. You read that right.

When you visit, you’ll see a pledge to vote, digital voter registration, and text reminders you can opt in to so that you’ll be alerted when the big day arrives. There are voter guides and an interactive map with state-specific information to see you through the process.

We can restore patriotism by putting the right people in office. That is how we can begin to turn this country around. Then, we raise patriots who will grow up to do the same!

Take your vote to the next level, and it will have ripple effects as your kids learn that it’s key to protecting the freedom we enjoy. They will discover that they hold the future in their hands through their vote!

 6. Talk to Your Teens About Preserving Freedom

 Your teens are the future.

Investing in them now is what will restore patriotism to America and keep it safe in the future!

But it doesn’t come naturally. They won’t automatically adopt your views. You’ve got to talk to them. And…. listen.

Noted parenting expert Dr. Kevin Leman advised that they will talk if you don’t constantly pepper your kids with questions. It’s been tried and works. When your teenagers start to share, you have a window into their lives.

Are history teachers bringing anti-American content to their lectures or homework? Is the Internet giving your kids input contrary to the freedom principles you taught them?

Let them tell you the story. With teens, it’s important to listen well and try not to lecture but create the environment for peaceful conversations at the dinner table, in the car, or one-on-one at a favorite coffee shop.

Whenever the opportunity arises, talk to your teens about preserving freedom. And again. Their school experiences might be the perfect springboard to discuss the rights and liberties that could be in peril. Don’t underestimate the weight of your words as a mom.

It will help them now; even more importantly, the concepts you share will come to mind when they are 30. Then it will be their chance to take a stand for their kids!

7. Run for Office

Yes, that’s what we said, run for office. Seek God’s will first, and then make your move!

You can do it. Your community needs you, and your kids will be impacted by it forever.

Restoring patriotism to America is going to take an army. You are needed in that army!

You can run for school board, sheriff’s office, or city council or even your state legislature. These are some of the most important roles you could fill. Each municipality varies a bit on the offices available, so do some research and find out who holds those positions and if any of them need to be given their walking papers – you could be the one!

Adding your influence to these local institutions will inspire others to reclaim their voices as American patriots as well.

Remember God’s guidance in Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

If God is leading you there- don’t be afraid to take the leap, mama! He’s got you.

You are strong, bold, and able to be a major player in our nation’s future. Try these 7 ways to restore patriotism in America using the power of your voice and influence as a mom.

The children you raise will be a force for good in our country because of your effort, love, and determination today.

Moms, we can do this!
